A client called with a request that we paint a few pieces of furniture that she had inherited from her grandparents. After stopping by to take a look we knew there was only one paint for the job, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. In the past, the paint we would have used would have taken weeks for us to refinish. But with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, we were able to tape off the original gold leafing and paint right over the original finish using Old White. Once dry, we waxed the piece to a smooth-as-ice finish. The client was thrilled and it was all completed in one day.

We just finished painting kitchen cabinets using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen. The cabinets were blonde and our client wanted a new look that would complement their granite and wood floors. The couple had already painted the walls in a soft gray so a warmer color would be perfect for the cabinets.

Metallic Adds Modern

A quick and easy transformation can happen just by glazing a wall. First, you start with an amazing color. This color is a Benjamin Moore Historic color, Marlboro, HC-153. The powder bath walls had been painted in a matte finish but the client wanted more. Using a metallic custom glaze, we painted right over the existing wall color rubbing and brushing uncovering a hint of the original blue color.

Now that’s a bath with a sophisticated glow!

Think Out of the Box

One of our favorite clients called one day with an idea for her teenage daughter’s bedroom. She had found some really cool ceramic flower bowls and wanted to install them over her bed. She decided on the color scheme and the wall color but wanted something hand painted to display the bowls. We collaborated with the client and came up with an organic tree branch coming up from one side of the bed and traveling toward the ceiling on the other side. The client was thrilled along with her daughter.

When you’re designing a room, think out of the box!

It’s not too late to join Sue and I as we head west to Chicago to learn some fabulous new furniture finishes with the famous Annie Sloan. We were lucky enough to meet her in New Orleans just a couple of weeks ago and what a pleasure. She makes painting furniture easy and fun in just a few simple steps.

The Glidden House

We just completed the last of our Glidden House projects. Although the projects were small, we are thrilled to have had the opportunity to leave a little piece of Metheny Weir. What an amazing bed and breakfast located between the museums and in the heart of Case Western Reserve University. Unless you’re a native Clevelander you might not know about this lovely jewel. The Glidden House was built in 1901 by the Glidden family of the painting fame.

Our first project was the vestibule where we gilded all of the carved moldings. It was interesting working on ladders as guest poured in and out of the hotel. The staff were so kind, holding doors for the guest and stopping by periodically for a peek of the progress. Our final project was the wooden floor in front of the registration desk. We knew there would be lots of traffic and took that in consideration when scheduling our work. A special “Thanks” to Lari Jacobson for assisting Sue with the laurel leaf border.
